Will Microsoft Teams replace Skype for Business?
During the Microsoft Ignite 2017, the company announced that Teams will replace the Skype for Business client by the end of 2018.
Now, many headlines could sound alarming for those who are running or are planning to adopt Skype for Business or are in the middle of a migration, but – don’t forget – Microsoft stated that:
- only the client will be replaced;
- Teams will integrate all its features;
- Teams will include several new features.
Microsoft will guarantee the compatibility with the existing Skype for Business deployments: on premises, hybrid, and online.
Microsoft announced also an updated version of the Skype for Business server in the next 2018 with improved voice capabilities and changes in some products names:
- PSTN Conferencing >> Audio Conferencing
- Cloud PBX >> Phone System
- PSTN Calling >> Calling Plan
In this scenario, the MultiUx family already has its strategy: we will provide compatible versions of our products, sustaining the customers’ UC projects.
We think that the Teams client introduction is a huge opportunity for developing innovative, interesting, and original features.
